The decisions to keep Guantanamo open and to try the 9-11 plotters in military commissions rather than in our court system make it difficult to come to any other conclusion than we are cowardly. I supported Attorney General Holder's original decision to try KSM in federal court in New York City. I wish we had the courage to uphold our professed values in our legal system, our constitution, and ourselves.

I think the administration made a calculated political decision on this one and took the safe, as opposed to principled, way out. In other words, the cowardly choice.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I am totally bummed out by this. They are also going the easy route now with the consumer protection agency by not trying to get E. Warren appointed. These things are coming totally out of left field for me. I guess the presidential campaign has indeed begun officially.
ReplyDeleteI'm fixing my indictment more on my fellow citizens (and myself, I guess), since it's our cowardice that is what the administration and other pols are responding to.
ReplyDeleteYes, I can offer a compelling argument. Despite U.S. Constitutional requirements, some citizen's values have simply been Abu Ghar-updated. Rather than being 'cowardly,' some citizens simply consider themselves lovers, not fighters. And some people rather not fight people who sport big moustaches. They'd rather love them, indefinitely.
